She appears in the Edda and is described as the best of physicians (Gylfaginning chp 35).

She is also described as a valkyrie in service to Freya.

She lives on a mountain called Lyfjaberg "the mountain of healing" in the service of Menglöd (one of the names attributed to Freyja)

Her name EIR, or Eira means mercy or help.
