A bit of history...

Wyrd is probably one of the most important aspects of Norse thought. It is produced by the Norns, the three goddesses of fate who constantly weave an infinite web, each thread of which represents a being. Wyrd guides the universe and all beings of the nine worlds are subject to it, even the gods. In Norse thought, the smallest blade of grass has its thread and Wyrd also takes into account the fate of stones.

This network of threads vibrates, according to births, deaths and upheavals. Each event modifying the vibration of a destiny can have an impact on other elements of the web because all are linked to each other.

It is the work of the diviner to detect and interpret the vibrations of the Wyrd, useful work because the web is not fixed and it is always possible, in Nordic thought, to influence destiny. Indeed, the Norn of the future is called Skuld, a name which means who should come to pass. The Wyrd is therefore in summary the world of the spirit.
